Anyone watch this on SKY Sports on Demand?

Remember watching with a Gooner mate who celebrated so much he jumped up kicked a table and ended up in A&E with a fractured foot! I even celebrated with him but obviously not to the extent he did.

Even better was that it caused the scouse misery. Away end went potty and the spaz flip after the goal was scored was funny as fuck.

A time when stadiums were stadiums with standing and an atmosphere. Beats the Aguero final minute goal by a long shot. Liverpool at Anfield winning the title from under theor noses.

Going to the dominant team in England and Europe, who had a ridiculous home record, needing a 0-2 win to take the title away from that very team, and getting the goal that was needed in the last minute.

VS

The richest club in the world getting a winner at home against QPR, a team who finished 1 place and 1 point above the relegation zone.

It's very fucking strange how the biggest football dinosaur on this forum is bigging up something that is the very epitome of what is shit about modern football.

As I said, proper post 96'er shit that. As bad as it gets.

Watched it today
What stands out is how Liverpool bottled it.
Didn’t appear to attack at all , a goal by them would have finished it , & then shat themselves when they went behind.

Ref tells Lee Dixon time is up and they seem to play on and on after Arsenal score.
Agree re Barnes , he just needed to take the ball in the corner and keep it in there.
In the modern era I’m guessing they would look at the ball deflecting back to Thomas off the defender ... suspect it might have hit his arm

Was at a time where as a 14 year old in hornchurch at that time, other than 1 gooner and 1 yid, the entire year were all west ham and a few liverpool glory hunters and I watched the game with 2 of them.

I literally didnt give a shit, but the more the game went on the more excited I got watching their misery.

Unreal way for a season to end.

The Arsenal achievement was THE achievement and THE most dramatic.

Liverpool were known as the kings of Europe through the 70’s AND 80’s let alone dominating our league, it was a team that had all it’s best players with home advantage.

Man City was them nigh on bottling it having spent billions and a hyped up League built on PR

That Arsenal team had A LOT of Gooners through & through plus youth links.

Good programme.

Couple of things noticed - Antonio’s failure to piss about in the corner vs. Palace pales into nothing compared to John Barnes losing the league for Liverpool doing the same in 89.

Bobby Robson - the king of football’s gentlemen.

Re: '89'
Aguero was more dramatic in that the goal (& the equaliser by Dzeko) came so late.
Arsenal 89 was more of an achievement in that going to Liverpool and winning 2-0 was something that never happened.
Can recall it was live on tv which was unusual at the time because of the delay in the season due to Hillsborough

Re: '89'
Yea would place it above the Aguero winner as the best climax to a season ever.

Remember it was a Friday night, you had the McMahon 1 minute finger, Brian Moore's 'it's up for grabs now' commentary, and the fact that it was the other team (Liverpool) that would have won the league. Impossible to ever be bettered.

John Barnes has always blamed himself, as if you watch the play before Arse headed up the field 'Digger' could have easily kept the ball down by the corner flag but he headed inside lost the ball and Arse went upfield..

I was delighted when Thomas broke through at the death and scored because Liverpool had spent the whole second half passing the ball back to Grobellaar who then stood there waving his arms about at imaginary midfielders hor half a ininute before releasing the ball.

Not a chance. A couple of bods went to Hollywood with a script about it. Got rejected by producers as they reckoned it wasn't true.

ATBOG... i didn’t give a fuck who won as at the time we had run ins with both... but assoon as McMahon gave it the ol one minute i was cheering the Goon.... only probably bettered by Aguero goal in a climax of a season...

Re: '89'
McMahon giving it the 1 minute finger? O'Leary mock consoling Aldridge by rubbing his head - a week or so after he'd done the same to Brian Laws in the FA cup semi-final? Aldridge then lashing out like the cry baby wanker he was/is? Inflicting psychological damage on a filthy cynical disgusting team of cheats who'd been bankrolled by one of the richest families in the country and had kicked the shit out the oppo and backpassed their way to loads of league titles?

I thought it was fucking brilliant

That the year in the game before they relegated us?! Wonder if Arsenal sent Leroy a case of champagne as that goal helped Arsenal!
